The weather in Kansas is so weird. Last week the kids were out playing in their jackets. Today it snowed big, beautiful flakes all afternoon.

Secret Pal Survey

1. Are you a yarn snob (do you prefer high- and/natural fibers)?
I personally prefer wool. I enjoy expensive brands but Lion Brand has some good stuff. I do not like acrylics at all.

2. Do you spin? Crochet?
Yes, I spin and crochet. But I don't crochet that well. I'm a new spinner and I'm completely hooked on it.

3. Do you have any allergies? (smoke, pets, fibers, perfume, etc.)
I can't stand the smell of smoke- I have a super sniffer that can smell it a mile away.
Perfumes give me headaches.

4. How long have you been knitting?
About 4 years, I think.

5. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?
Nope

6. What's your favorite scent? (for candles, bath products etc.)
pomegranate, apple, vanilla, Sage

8. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do?
I like paper crafts like origami and bookmaking.

I love purples, greens and oranges (sometimes all together).

I am married with two beautiful kids, boy- 4 and girl-6. I'm a stay-at-home mom. No pets.

12. What are your life dreams? (really stretching it here, I know)
Hmm... my life dream that's a hard one. I would like my family to stay just the way it is forever, my kids stay young, I stay at home and take care of them and my husband takes care of all of us. Or the kids could grow-up and me and my husband could travel. (I'm flexible)

13. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with?
Noro brand is my favorite, I think it's the colors more than anything.

14. What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?
I'm not a big novelty yarn fan. I have never made anything with fun fur. I'm a very simple girl I like Brown Sheep Company yarns.

I really just dabble in everything. I like complicated cables. Right now I am knitting a lot of socks.

Here's what I'm working on at present. I beautiful pair of socks, using the no wrap heel method from ozyarn, a scarf swap that I am involved in over at Craftster, and sewing 7 daisy girl scout tunics. Plus I'm still sick.

Sick Days

One bad thing about being a stay-at-home mom is there are no sick days. I can get a few vacation days here and there. But when I'm sick, I still have to care for everyone else. I think I just have a little touch of the flu.

Nothing New

I joined:

Nothing else is really going on. I took my spinning wheel to Sage's class today for a demo. I read Charlie Needs a Cloak and showed them some wool. I also made a loom from a cardboard box and left it for them to work on.

This the first project made from my own homespun. It's a two ply that I kool-aid dyed. I'm so proud. The pattern is from Stitch n' Bitch. If you don't "get" the picture you haven't seen Napoleon Dynamite (shame on you)

Friday

So what did I end up doing with my kids on Friday?? A fun-filled trip to the mall. Desperate times calls for desperate measures. We ate lunch at the food court, rode on all the ride-ons (twice), and went to the candy store. You have to understand that our mall is less than amazing. Every other store is an empty hole where some place couldn't make it and closed up. People around here mostly shop at Wal-Mart, Target, or online. The mall is a dying breed, at least locally.

Minisweater

I finished this Minisweater by Glampyre last week and I love it. I used Noro and I think the strips came out perfectly. You can't see it in the picture but there is a little bit of pink and purple running through, so it looks great with all my long sleeve tees. Plus since it's wool it's fairly warm. I think I will make another one from cotton for the spring.

No school, again

No school again. Normally I would love to have a snow day with my kids at home but since we just got back to school from a 2 week Christmas break and we have already been out of school for two days; I'm at a lost for what to do. I have used up all my reserve craft projects, played every board game twice, watch a ton of cartoons, made s'mores, played with all of our new Christmas toys, colored, painted, stamped, etc. I think you get the picture. It's too cold and crappy to go out. So what's a mom to do??? (I will let you know what I came up with tomorrow)

So I have this much Noro (about 1 1/2 balls) of two different colors and no pattern to use it with. It's just not enough to make anything . Any suggestions?? By the way this it my most favorite picture from our cruise, but Dennis hates it.

I was wrong

So I was wrong about school. They actually cancelled school on Wednesday and Thursday. It was a huge ice storm that left 53,000 Wichitians without electricity including us. Our power went out Tuesday about 7:00pm and just came back today at 11:00am. And it is very, very cold - the high has been in the teens. We spent yesterday and last night at my aunt's house. But today as we were leaving to come home their power went out. Our favorite little tree out front has most of it's branches broken off and our fish all died. When we finally came home the temperature in house was 50 degrees. It has been long couple of days.

Icy Day

It is a very yucky, icy day today. It has been raining since last night, now everything is freezing. The trees can't take it and are breaking and falling all over the place. It will just get worse overnight but will they cancel school. NO. Every district around us will be out but will be risking life and limb to get our kids to school. Not me, ever though we live close, tomorrow will find my kids cuddled up by the fireplace, drinking hot cocoa and reading books.
