The Count
The Count's Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

It started with a simple affection for counting and
the terror it induced in others, didn't it?
But now it's turned into a full-blown
life-consuming chaotic nightmare of order,
repetition, zealousness, and perfectionism.
You used to be so grand, but now you find
yourself obsessively worrying over the littlest
things--like, maybe if you don't check the
light switch at least once every two minutes,
the electricity will go out (and damnit, you're
a vampire--that shouldn't be a problem!), or
maybe if you don't wash your hands until your
seams are coming out, you'll get some fatal
disease. Get yourself some treatment.

Here's the beginning of the Hallowig. I used some acrylic that my grandma gave me. (Actually it's the same stuff I used for part of the fiesta tea set). The problem is I'm not sure if there is going to be enough to finish it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

So what have I been doing??

I have completed one full side of In Retrospect. Now I have the left front, left arm and collar. It's taking me a long time because although I love the cables, I am not very fast at working them. I should be done by the time it gets chilly here.

I'm not the kind of person who can usually have two projects going at once. But since In Retro is slow going and I already had some yarn to start the Lacy Poncho I went for it. But it is also taking me forever. The yarn I have is some crochet cotton that I got at Wal-Mart for .75 a ball. It sucks to work with but I do like the color and the lace effect although it is a little heavy. I am half way done.

Yes, I'm still around, I just haven't had time to post since the kids started school. I am so busy. I'm room mom for both kids classrooms, PTO meetings, site council, a new class at the church, etc. I have found some time to knit- I started the Lacy Poncho and I have the entire right side of In Retrospect done. I will be posting pictures soon.

I finally decided it was time to clean some of that wool that I got when Sage went to the pony farm back in May. This was my first experience and I think it went fairly well, I had some books from the library and Mindful Moderation had given me some tips.
First, Sage helped me sort and tease it.

Then I used some Dawn detergent and a delicates bag to wash it.

I rinsed and then put it into a Kool-Aid dye bath.

As I type it is drying in the back. The one on the left is grape Kool-Aid and the top is Strawberry.

Now comes the hard part, carding it. Fifty bucks for a real set of carding paddles isn't an investment I want to make til I'm sure that I will be doing this often. So I'm going to try to use dog brushes. After the carding I made my own drop spindles from dowels, cup hooks, and wood wheels. I'm on the road to making my own yarn.

I have one more craft recipe to share with you. This is for finger paints.

1 part cornstarch
3 parts water
food coloring

Mix cornstarch and water in saucepan and stir til smooth. Heat, stirring rapidly and constantly, until mixture is thick and smooth. Add food coloring.

We made this yesterday and Tren loved it.

Stitch Diva has a new pattern out. Of course I have to have it, I love wearing the Art Nouveau and I'm sure this pattern will become a staple of my fall wear.
