Creating Me

Monday, June 30

I just finished book about Columbine by Brooks Brown. It was very interesting to see the events from the a students perspective. I would highly recommend it. In the book he mentioned his website Little Brother is Watching. It is a wonderful place to visit. Give it a try.

Cleaning at the my parent's is going well but a ton of work. We bought the paint and all the supplies today, I never realized how expensive decorating can be. We are using three neturals, one for ceiling, one for walls, and one for trim.

In other news, my new job and the move hasn't left much time for craftiness and creating. I have a list of project but they are going to have to wait. Once we move it will time to start on the kids Halloween costumes. Sage said she wants to be a ghost this year, but I think once she looks through the pattern book she will change her mind. I think the kids would be cute as Spongebob and Patrick, then me and Dennis could be Sandy and Squidward. Just the thought is cracking me up.

The Friday Five
1. How are you planning to spend the summer [winter]?
I plan on looking for a home to buy.

2. What was your first summer job?
I worked at Sonic (a drive-up fast food place). The best thing about it was you got tips.

3. If you could go anywhere this summer [winter], where would you go?
The Disney cruise. But we are waiting till the kids get a little older.

4. What was your worst vacation ever?
Last year we drove to the Mall of America. It took aboout 12 hours to get there and my son cried the entire way. Nothing would calm him down. It was the longest 12 hours of my life.

5. What was your best vacation ever?
The best vaction I have ever been on was the cruise that I took with my husband in March. It was so wonderful. Just the two of us, relaxing. This was my first time on a plane and the my first time seeing the ocean. I so happy that I got to share these things with someone I love. I can't wait till our next vacation together.

Now I remember why I love running outside so much. I have been running on the track at the YMCA (14 laps=1 mile). But today was in the 70's so I decided to run to my favorite park. I take a trail that is in a wooded area. There's lots of wildlife, squirrels, snakes, bunnies, and tons of birds. It's very quiet and the animals aren't too scaried of humans, they cross the trail right in front of you. Today I was very suprised to see a white squirrel. We have red squirrels all over the place, my mom even has a special squirrel feeder in her front yard. I have seen gray squirrels in Oklahoma but this was the very first time I have seen a white squirrel. It really was exciting for me.

1. Surf sites at random, or have a set list of regular reads?
I have a regular set of blogs that I read. They include not martha, ljc fyi, reusablog, and uplifting arts. But is I get bored I will read anything.
2. Do you visit mostly blogs, or news or other sites?
I mostly read blogs, but I also shop, ebay and answer most of my everyday questions; that cancer on the back of my husbands leg or just a mole??
3. Do you go online every day, or just a couple of days a week?
I am online everyday, most of the time 3-5 times a day.
4. Do you allow comments on your blog, or not?
Yes but since only about 7 people read my blog a day no one really leaves comments.
5. Do you shop online at all, or at regular stores?
If they take paypal I will shop online.
6. Have you ever done online bill-paying/banking, or not?
I use to but not since we changed banks.
7. Which news site do you prefer... or Or do you prefer some other one?
I don't really look at either of those sites, mostly I read the paper.
8. Live chat rooms, or message boards?
Live chat, I hate message boards. It's too confusing to me.
9. Instant messaging or e-mail?
10. Yes or no: have you ever met, or at least talked on the phone with, another blogger? If not, would you want to? Why or why not?
No, but if someone cool lived near by I would be willing to meet them.

I can't thank my best friend Carrie enough for introducing me to World Market . It is everything I want for my home. Plus it's a perfect excuse to go visit Carrie.

I have been thinking alot about how I want to decorate my home. I found The Red Lotus Letter while looking for elements of asian decorating. I want my home to be calm and peaceful; a haven for my family from the stress of life. And I am sick of all the clutter that we have. I want something simple. Of course this is for the upper rooms, places that aren't for the kids to play in and will proably mostly be used for company. But I plan on using feng shui throughout the house.

I'm so excited to get Everyday Food today. This issue is all about grilling but we don't have a grill. There are still alot of great recipes that I think I can adapt to the stove.
But if I could have any grill, it would be the Fire and Ice Thermos Grill by Char-Broil. It's portable and it has a cooler to store cold items

Friday Five
1. Is your hair naturally curly, wavy, or straight? Long or short?
My hair naturally very curly but I have been using a relaxer on it for a few years and even when it grows out it isn't as curly as it use to be.

2. How has your hair changed over your lifetime?
When I was young my dad made me wear my hair long. I couldn't get it cut above my shoulders, my mom would brush it out which was terrible with all those knotted curls. As I got older I had less curl and more frizz. Now my hair is at it's prime, no frizz, curls easily with a curling iron, I use good product and that makes all the difference.

3. How do your normally wear your hair?
Super short. Pixie

4. If you could change your hair this minute, what would it look like?
The perfect Halle Berry that's what I always strive for but I think I need a professional hairstylist to live with me.

5. Ever had a hair disaster? What happened?
Not that really stands out but my husband had a stylist tell him that she did the best she could.

I really want to buy Dennis this book. I read the excerpt at It reminds me of Dennis' life. Since he's home for the summer he has a lot of undirected energy. He has watched 2 seasons of The Sopranos on DVD, put over half of our house in storage, hosted two days of a garage sale, football practice 3 days a week, and worked out every day. He's a busy beaver.

Saturday, June 14

It's been so busy lately I haven't had a chance to blog. We had a garage sale Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, we ended up giving away everything that was left for free to anyone willing to take it.
I started working at Kohl's this week. I haven't worked outside my home in 4 years. I am really enjoying being around lots of adults. Plus any kid screaming and falling on the floor is not my problem, that's so cool.

We bought this ice shaver and it has been a BIG hit. The kids love to crank it themselves. We got cherry and blueberry syrup, I like cherry best. We also use it to cool down our ice tea and Kool-aid.

Friday Five

1. How many times have you truly been in love?

I would say 4, if you count my kids. The love I feel for my kids is truly the most intense love I have ever felt.

2. What was/is so great about the person you love(d) the most?

My family as a unit (husband, 2 kids) is the "person" I love the most. I love that our love is unconditional. At the end of the day, when we are all tucked into bed, our love is what makes life worth living.
3. What qualities should a significant other have?

PATIENCE!! a great sense of humor

4. Have you ever broken someone's heart?

Yes, but I was young and dumb.

5. If there was one thing you could teach people about love, what would it be?

Love is the way to see "God" in action.

Yesterday I took Sage to the doctor. We were sitting in the waiting room playing tic-tac-toe. There were two little girls playing with dolls nearby. One little girl said "Here take this doll" and the other little girls responded "No, I don't like brown babies." I don't think Sage heard but I almost started crying.
